Direct Support Professionals New Jersey

A Direct Support Professional (DSP) is someone who is employed by a service provider organization and assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to actively participate in home and community life and realize their full potential as valued citizens. DSPs work in a variety of places including individual and family homes, group homes, supported apartments, day habilitation programs, and the community. DSPs support people with a variety of activities that include, but are not limited to:

• Learning new skills
• Completing personal care activities
• Accomplishing daily living activities (e.g. cooking, cleaning, shopping...)
• Ensuring health and safety
• Facilitating community connection and relationships
• Upholding individual rights
• Assisting people to be a part of the community
